Health and Medicine
The following individuals were elected to the board of trustees at Monongahela Valley Hospital: R. Carlyn Belczyk, partner, Guthrie, Belczyk & Associates; Charles Muia, owner/operator, Muia's Studio; and Dana Caruso Shirreffs, president, Jaycee Foods Inc. Belczyk also was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc., parent corporation of Monongahela Valley Hospital.
Butler Memorial appointed Steven Pietruszynski, M.D., to its staff. He joined the practice of Lucien Diagnostic Imaging.
Jacques E. Chelly, M.D., Ph.D., professor and vice chairman of clinical research for the department of anesthesiology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and director of orthopaedic anesthesia and the acute interventional perioperative pain service, UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside hospital, was named president of the newly formed Orthopedic Anesthesia, Pain and Rehabilitation Society (OAPRS).

Awards/Honors
The Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce named Robert Terwilliger program manager, PBS&J's aviation division in Pittsburgh, its corporate business person of the year. Terwilliger is serving his second term on the chamber board and is executive committee first vice chair.
Guardian Protection Services was recognized by the Federal Protective Service, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, for its continuous support of the agency's security needs and requirements, including support during emergency situations. During the 2004 flooding in Pittsburgh, Guardian assisted the Department of Homeland Security and the FPS by securing the temporary location of a local police department along with collection of case evidence after that department was forced to evacuate its permanent building.
Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Swissvale, was honored by Citizens for Global Solutions for his leadership in Congress on issues of international significance.
Verizon Wireless was recognized for Highest Call Quality Performance Among Wireless Cell Phone Users in J.D. Power's Mid-Atlantic region, which includes Pittsburgh, in the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study.
Making a Difference/Doing Good
The new Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 850 Chippewa Towne Centre Drive, is contributing $570 raised during its Aug. 6 grand opening Very Important Neighbor party to The Blackhawk Foundation. Invited lunch and dinner guests were encouraged to make a $5 donation to the organization.
Grants/Loans
Tickets for Kids Foundation was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Robert and Mary Weisbrod Foundation. The grant supports Tickets for Kids' mission to enrich the lives of some of the most forgotten children and families in our area by including them in cultural, recreational and educational events.

First Commonwealth Bank, a subsidiary of First Commonwealth Financial Corp., opened a full-service branch in the Village at Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer.
Carol Harris Staffing opened a branch at 252 Pillow St., Butler, and relocated its Monroeville office to 2703 Mosside Blvd., the former Northwood Realty building.
Corrosion Fluid Products Corp. opened a branch office and repair facility in Robinson.

Commercial National Financial Corp. declared a quarterly dividend of 20 cents per share, payable Sept. 3 to shareholders of record Aug. 26.

Business Notes
Pennsylvania Electric Coil Ltd. installed a $1.6 million automated electric form coil process.
Columbus and Pittsburgh-based Schneider Downs & Co. Inc. is merging with BKR Longanbach Giusti, a 26-year-old accounting firm based in Columbus. The transaction, expected to be completed after due diligence in August, will expand Schneider Downs' Columbus office with the addition of 22 professionals, including five shareholders. The combined group will be known as Schneider Downs.
Northwest Bancorp Inc. said it would repurchase up to 5 percent, or about 1 million shares, of its common stock. The company has about 51 million shares outstanding.
Contracts
Wizzard Software and its subsidiary MedivoxRX Technologies signed a one-year distribution agreement for the Rex-The Talking Prescription Bottle Systems with Cardinal Health Inc.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission retained Parsons Brinckerhoff to design a five-mile toll road extension. Called the Southern Beltway, the extension will connect Pittsburgh International Airport to I-79 and the Mon Fayette Expressway in the Monongahela River Valley with a toll road. The project includes a four-lane toll road as part of three design sections, stretching from U.S. Route 22 to Interstate 79, including a new interchange with Route 50 and a full interchange with I-79.
Burns & Scalo Roofing has a 227,000-square-foot roofing contract for Wal-Mart, Vienna, W.Va.
P.J. Dick Small Projects Group was awarded three new branch banks for PNC, including offices at the new Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Frazer; Seven Fields Towne Center, Adams; and Greengate Mall, Greensburg.
Cuddy Roofing Co. has a 33,812-square-foot roofing contract for Hillman Library, University of Pittsburgh, Oakland. Architect is Celli-Flynn Brennan.
Adonix announced that Finlandia Cheese Inc. selected the Adonix X3 Distribution suite to streamline and manage its distribution and financial operations and improve overall access to management information.
