ACLU seeks school reinstatement for Beaver County teen
Friday, August 19, 2005

The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal judge yesterday to lift the expulsion of a 14-year-old boy kicked out of school because authorities said he wrote rap lyrics that threatened violence against another student.

The ACLU asked for an injunction to reinstate Anthony Latour to the Riverside School District in Beaver County so he can start the ninth grade at the high school on Aug. 31.

The ACLU earlier this month filed suit against the district, saying Latour's rap lyrics are protected free speech.

Latour was arrested April 21 and charged in juvenile court with harassment and making terroristic threats after authorities were alerted to the songs. He was expelled May 5.

Chief U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose did not indicate when she'll make a decision.
