A 37-year-old man who was hit by a car early yesterday on Mount Royal Boulevard in Shaler died nearly four hours after the accident and police are looking for the driver of the car that hit him.
Shaler police said David Schaltenbrand, of Shaler, was crossing the boulevard in the 1000 block around 2 a.m. when he was struck by the car.
He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital where he died at 5:50 a.m. The Allegheny County coroner's office determined he died of injuries to the head and abdomen.
Police said the car that hit him may have been a dark colored Chrysler PT Cruiser. It likely has damage to the front end, with at least one of the headlights and the windshield broken.
Police said after the crash the vehicle drove south toward Etna.
The block where Shaltenbrand was hit is between East and West Littlewood avenues and West Genessee Avenue.
