CITY

A 38-year-old West End man who was shot by his brother in May died yesterday, city police said.

The cause of death had not been determined yesterday and it was unclear whether the man, John Stroud, who was found lying in a pool of blood in his bathroom, was the victim of another violent crime, police said.

Stroud was found unresponsive yesterday about 1:40 p.m. in his home in the 1200 block of Lakewood Street when relatives arrived to take him to the hospital for a previously scheduled surgery. He was pronounced dead minutes later.

No arrests have been made.

"Whether he died from his injuries from the incident in May or from something else won't be determined until an autopsy is completed," said Pittsburgh police Lt. Robert Roth.

On May 11, Kalvin Russell Watson shot his brother in the hallway of an apartment in the 1000 block of Chartiers Avenue, police said. Stroud was treated at Allegheny General Hospital. Watson was charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Charges against Watson were dropped at a June 22 preliminary hearing at which Stroud testified that "it was just a big misunderstanding" and he didn't wish to press charges.
