LOTTA SOUL

How much soul can Pittsburgh handle in one weekend? The night before Solomon Burke, The Shadow Lounge hosts what's sure to be remembered as the night you danced so hard you lost 10 pounds, a party so big, they need two rooms. Never Souled Out brings five DJs to the table (DJ Riel, the guys from Soulcialism and two out-of-towners), spinning Northern Soul and classic funk Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The Shadow Lounge is at 5972 Baum Blvd., East Liberty. And this event is BYOB, although punctual dancers may find complimentary kegs awaiting them at 8.

PEG'S NOIR

The formerly local Peg Simone, whose melancholy country-noir has been described in Village Voice as "ghost-town tumbleweed rock 'n' roll," will be swinging through town on the opening night of a three-day mid-Atlantic tour billed as "Songs to Sooth Honky-Tonk Hearts" with Pittsburgh's Deliberate Strangers, promising a double helping of that country darkness that Elvis Costello was singing about. The Pittsburgh stop is Club Cafe tonight at 10.
