No charges filed after baby left in car near PNC Park
Wednesday, August 10, 2005

No charges will be filed against the Robinson couple who forgot about their 8-month-old baby inside their vehicle as the rest of the family went to a Pirates' game last week.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said the Aug. 3 incident was an accident that the parents immediately moved to correct. He declined to identify the couple.

The baby had been left alone in a car seat in the sport utility vehicle for about 40 minutes. The father had dropped off the mother and the child's two siblings at the gate of PNC Park, parked the vehicle in a lot across the street, and returned to the ballpark. By the time he rushed back to the parking lot, a couple admiring the vehicle noticed the infant inside and summoned a nearby police officer.

The temperature outside was 90 degrees.

The officer smashed the window and retrieved the baby, who was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and was found to be in good health.
