Shenango appeals air pollution violations
Friday, July 29, 2005

Shenango Inc. has appealed an Allegheny County Health Department order that it curtail operations causing repeated violations of air pollution standards at its Neville Island coke works.

In response, the Health Department has granted a one-week stay of its July 22 order to curtail operations by 33 percent at the 56-oven coke battery. The order was supposed to take effect Monday.

Shenango last week also appealed the $252,000 fine levied by the Health Department.
