As fashion designer Carolina Herrera's popularity continues to grow, it's hard to imagine what more she could do to become a household name.

A Barbie clad in a wedding dress designed by Carolina Herrera is $140.

Now the youngest fashion-istas can own a bit of Herrera style with a new Barbie doll that wears a wedding gown designed by the New Yorker. The white frock is beaded with corded lace and a full-length veil embellished with faux pearls.

"Barbie dolls have a timelessness about them," said Herrera, a native of Venezuela. "This is a theme that speaks to me, and that I strive to incorporate into my own work."

Herrera designs daywear, accessories and bridalwear, recently fitting actress Renee Zellweger in a custom wedding gown.

The Gold Label Barbie blond wedding doll by Herrera, part of the Barbie Collector Doll series, is $140 at www.BarbieCollector.com. In October, Mattel will make 1,000 Platinum Label brunette versions available at FAO Schwarz stores.

Gumball jewels

Since his gumball-shaped turquoise ring, seen at right, appeared in the summer edition of W Jewelry magazine, Pittsburgher Caesar Azzam has sold pieces from his Gumball Collection to buyers in Florida, Texas, Los Angeles, New York and Paris. Azzam, a gemologist and third-generation jeweler, created the line of rings, cuff bracelets, earrings and pendants in 2000. He decided to relaunch it internationally this year and placed a full-page ad in the magazine, which is issued by the publishers of W fashion magazine.

Made of turquoise, coral, white South Sea and black Tahitian pearls, the pieces range from $575 for a sterling silver ring with turquoise to $5,800 for a cuff bracelet with South Sea pearl and diamonds in 18-carat gold. Pieces can be viewed at caesarsdesigns.com and bought at Caesar's Designs Jewelry Creations, 5417 Walnut St., Shadyside.

Chocolate Shirt

Most cinematic releases nowadays have some fashion merchandising tie-in, and Chocolate Shirt, a division of Los Angeles-based Scent Branding Inc., has made a chocolate-scented T-shirt to commemorate the release of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." I wore the brown tee with jeans to a cookout and inhaled the comforting scent of dark chocolate all day. And it didn't diminish after the first washing. Warner Bros. will make the shirt available at chocolateshirt.com, where chocolate-lovers can currently find four other cocoa-scented T-shirts.
