Animals dead and dying in the front window of a Carrick pet shop sparked an investigation by humane agents. The operator of the shop, John Regelman, 49, will be charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, said Kathy Hecker, who investigates and prosecutes cases for the Animal Friends shelter.
"Passers-by and neighbors had noticed that animals were in the window for days and days" but no one appeared to be feeding them or taking care of them, Hecker said. They called Animal Friends on Tuesday, and Hecker went to the shop at 1225 Brownsville Road.
"When we got there, there was a dead guinea pig in the window" and another that appeared close to death. Inside she found a dead snake, three dead pet rats, a live box turtle and two live snakes.
