GMC: Envoy Denali is an answer to smaller SUVs
Wednesday, June 22, 2005

Evidence is growing that sport-utility buyers increasingly want smaller, more modest-size vehicles to drive.

With that in mind, it makes sense that GMC, General Motors' upscale division, would introduce the Envoy Denali and Envoy XL Denali for 2005. The new models, both considered midsize products, give GMC more clout in the smaller vehicle field, while still allowing the company to sell the luxurious upscale models for which GMC is increasingly known.

How do you distinguish these two from more ordinary Envoys? Look for a signature chrome-painted grille with a honeycomb texture. You'll also see an all-new, body-color, single-piece front fascia; a large, horizontal air intake flanked by round fog lamps; and an integrated front air dam to channel more air to the engine.

Around back, you'll see a different rear fascia, and elsewhere you will find body-color-painted integrated running boards, thinner body-color side moldings, body-color mirrors and polished forged aluminum 17-inch wheels.

Inside you'll find leather seating, leather steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake boot, along with touches of burl wood grain accents and satin nickel trim.

Power comes from a 290-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8. Fuel mileage is 16/19 for two-wheel-drive models and 15/18 for four-wheel drives.

Standard equipment on these models includes air conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, programmable door locks, OnStar, power adjustable pedals and enhanced quiet package, and an AM/FM stereo system with CD player and cassette. Side head curtain air bags for the first- and second-row seats also are available.

Base prices for the Envoy Denali range from $37,565 to $39,640. Base prices for the Envoy XL Denali, which has three rows of seats, begin at $38,845 to $40,920.
