Carnegie Mellon's Amy Staloch, a freshman from Midland, Mich., earned All-American honors by reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Individual Championships this past weekend at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Unseeded Staloch lost to top-seed Lindsay Hagerman of Washington & Lee in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-2, to finish with a 26-5 record in singles. Hagerman was named the ITA Division III Women's Senior player of the year.
Staloch advanced to the semifinals with victories against Alicia Hunt, 6-4, 6-2; No. 8 Gabrielle Carvalho, 6-3, 7-5; and No. 4 Sandra Montez, 6-3, 7-5.
The top eight finishers all qualify for All-American status.
Staloch and sophomore Mona Iyer lost in the first round of doubles to finish 28-5. Staloch and Iyer earned All-American honors last fall by finishing as runner-up in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Small-College Championships at Lakeland, Fla.
Staloch was rookie of the year and first-team All-University Athletic Association and was the only player at No. 1 singles to win all her league matches. She was 7-0.

The Stanford Cardinal won its second consecutive NCAA Division I women's championship, fourth in the past five years and 14th overall with a 4-0 victory against Texas in the final at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Stanford's 14 national titles are 10 more than runner-up Florida.
Stanford (27-0) completed its ninth undefeated season and stretched its match winning streak to 56 in a row and 197 of 203 in the past seven years. The Cardinal is 138-3 in Lele Forood's five years as head coach.
Stanford junior Alice Barnes, who was 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, was named the most outstanding player of the tournament for the second consecutive year.
No. 11 Texas, the lowest seeded team to reach the women's finals since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1999, upset No. 6 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Kentucky and No. 2 Florida to reach the finals.
* No. 7 UCLA won its first NCAA Division I men's championship since 1984 and ended Baylor's 57-match win streak with a 5-3 victory against the top-seeded Bears in the finals at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center.
UCLA (27-3), whose 16 titles is tied with Southern California for second most behind Stanford's 17, upset the No. 1, 2 and 3 seeds on consecutive days.
Stopping a win streak is nothing new for UCLA, which ended Illinois' 64-match win streak in the semifinals last year.
Baylor senior Benedict Dorsch was the tournament's most outstanding player for the second consecutive year.
The title is UCLA's 97th NCAA team championship that leads all Division I schools.
* UC-Santa Cruz defeated defending champion Middlebury (Conn.), 4-1, to win the NCAA Division III men's title.
* Emory (Ga.) University became the first school to win three consecutive NCAA Division III women's championships with a 5-3 victory against Washington & Lee in the final.

Slippery Rock's Ashley Michaux, a junior and Penn-Trafford High School graduate who was 18-3 at No. 1 singles and 12-6 at No. 1 doubles this season, is the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division athlete of the year in tennis. Slippery Rock's Matt Meredith is the men's coach of the year and California's Pablo Montana is women's coach of the year. Clarion's Cori Rombach is West Division's women's rookie of the year.
