STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Two former Penn State football players accused of shooting arrows through a dormitory room wall pleaded guilty yesterday to misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief.

Former center E.Z. Smith and former linebacker Mike Sothern were each fined $100 for their involvement in the Jan. 29 incident.

Prosecutors said they shot graphite arrows at a T-shirt hanging on a wall, and residents of the neighboring apartment said they heard noises and found an arrow.

Investigators said they found about 34 arrow holes in the wall. University officials said the cost of the repairs was still being estimated, but police estimated the damage at about $700, according to court records.

Penn State expelled Smith and Sothern for two semesters.
