Research

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine is sponsoring a research study on biofeedback treatment for urinary incontinence involving a bladder evaluation and pelvic floor muscle training. If you are a woman 60 or older and have difficulty controlling your bladder, you may be eligible. Participants receive a stipend. For details, 412-647-1271.

Penn State McKeesport's Psychology Department is seeking parents with diagnosed physical disabilities (such as spinal cord or back injury, arthritis, amputations) and their adolescent children (ages 12-18) to participate separately in one or two phone interviews about everyday positive and stressful experiences being or living with a parent with a physical disability. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is looking for volunteers for a medication therapy study for depression and anxiety. Participants, between the ages of 18 and 65 are needed for a study to examine the effectiveness of an FDA-approved antidepressant. For details, call 412-246-5566.

The department of physical therapy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is seeking 160 participants over the age of 50 who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis by a physician and who are able to walk without the assistance of a cane or walker. The study will examine the effects of exercise on knee osteoarthritis. Those who complete the study may receive up to $105 for their participation. For details, call 412-973-3342.

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking individuals for a study exploring how people can reduce their risk for diabetes. This study will focus on how diet counseling and exercise may lower this risk. Participants should be overweight, nonsmokers and not exercising regularly and between the ages of 60 and 75.
