NBA Roundup: Bulls slip past Magic, 102-101
Iverson scores 48 to lift Philadelphia to 106-103 victory
Thursday, April 07, 2005

Kirk Hinrich scored 25 points, Antonio Davis hit a go-ahead free throw with 1.4 seconds left in overtime and the visiting Chicago Bulls beat the Orlando Magic, 102-101, last night.

Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 22 rebounds for the Bulls, who had their nine-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night in Miami.

After Ben Gordon missed a runner on Chicago's final possession, Davis rebounded and was fouled by Kelvin Cato on the putback try. Davis, shooting 74 percent from the line this season, missed the first then swished the second.

Davis finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Orlando's bid for victory in its first overtime game of the season didn't come close, as Jameer Nelson's wild 3-pointer missed everything.

Combined with Philadelphia's win against Charlotte, the Magic is 2 1/2 games out of the eighth and final playoff berth with seven games remaining.

Steve Francis had 28 points and 11 assists for the Magic, while Nelson added 18 points and eight rebounds.

Grant Hill sat out his third consecutive game with a sore left shin, which has bothered him since being kicked more than five weeks ago.

The team is unsure when he will return.

Other games

76ers 106, Bobcats 103: Allen Iverson scored 48 points and kept host Philadelphia in the playoff hunt with a win against Charlotte. Iverson had 30 in the first half to help the 76ers take a 25-point lead, which was sliced to one late in the fourth quarter. The wins gave Philadelphia a small cushion in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers are 3 1/2 games behind Boston in the Atlantic Division and a game and a half ahead of New Jersey for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Pistons 105, Wizards 93: Ben Wallace had 21 points and 18 rebounds, and host Detroit cut its magic number to clinch the Central Division title to four with a victory against Washington. Detroit has won four in a row and leads second-place Chicago by five games. It was Larry Brown's 101st win as Pistons coach, breaking Rick Carlisle's team record of 100 in his first two season with Detroit.

Celtics 103, Bucks 97: Ricky Davis scored 27 points and Boston overcame an 11-point third quarter deficit for a win against visiting Milwaukee, which played without top scorer Michael Redd. Pacers 98, Cavaliers 77: Stephen Jackson scored 23 points and Reggie Miller had 17 to lead host Indiana to its fifth consecutive win. The game was never close after the Pacers held the Cavaliers to 10 points in the second quarter. Cleveland, which has lost nine of 13, made just 3 of 22 shots in the quarter. LeBron James scored 20 points on 9-for-18 shooting.

Grizzlies 104, Raptors 74: Pau Gasol scored 26 points to lead to visiting Memphis past Toronto. Memphis' 30-point margin of victory was a team record for a road game. The Grizzlies never trailed and led by as many as 37 points.
