LCB campaign aimed at underaged drinkers
Wednesday, April 06, 2005

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is rolling out a public-awareness campaign telling parents that 65 percent of kids who drink get their alcohol from family and friends.

"That's a number that almost boggles the mind," said Jonathan Newman, chairman of the PLCB, at a press conference today.

The 65 percent share exceeds all other manners of obtaining liquor combined - 7 percent of kids get alcohol from a spirits store or beer distributor that didn't check ID, 3 percent of Pennsylvania's under-aged drinkers have their own fake ID card, 5 percent pay a stranger to buy the beer for them, and 20 percent use "other" methods.

The campaign will include TV commercials, fliers and posters, and all liquor store employees will be wearing lapel buttons that that remind adults how kids usually get their alcohol.
