Trench cave-in injures 2 in Brighton Heights
Tuesday, April 05, 2005

Two men were in stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital after they were rescued from a collapsed trench at a construction site on the border of Ross and the city's Brighton Heights neighborhood.

Patrick Kirby and Jim Happ were trapped waist-deep in mud for about a half-hour in an eight-to-10 foot trench behind the 1400 block of Cliffview Road.

Paramedics from Pittsburgh and West View-Ross responded and the men were transported to AGH with non-life- threatening injuries.

Kirby, owner of Kirby Construction, and his work crew were installing sewer and water lines when the side of the ditch collapsed.
