In the business of recovering and donating surplus medical supplies, Pittsburgh-based Global Links was honored Thursday for its efforts by Pan American Health Organization's director Dr. Mirta Roses Periago.

A reception hosted by Acusis, a big donor to Global Links and a provider of outsourced medical transcriptions services, drew more than 100 guests to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Dymun + Company organized the gathering, which featured a multimedia show highlighting the work of Global Links. Acusis CEO David Iwinski Jr. welcomed guests, including Mayor Tom Murphy, who read a proclamation, and Global Links executive director Kathleen Hower. Among those applauding and "Celebrating Our Region's Contributions to World Health" were Acusis chair Bill Benter, John Dymun, Ray Dyer, Dr. Youri Emmanuel, Dr. Pedro Zaiter, executive director of the Pan American Health & Education Foundation Jess Gersky, Richard and Barbara Fisher, Ellen Mazo, director of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Dr. Jitendra Desai, Bill O'Connor, state Reps. Jim Ferlo and Sean Ramaley and Dr. Kathleen DeWalt.
