Penn's Woods West Trout Unlimited will hold its annual free fly- fishing seminar at St. Bede's Church in Squirrel Hill, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Some of the area's most dedicated anglers will talk about equipment, knots, tactics and casting for both novice and veteran fly fishers. The Upper St. Clair Fly Fishing Club will hold its first community expo in the Upper St. Clair Township Recreation Center on McLaughlin Run Road. Admission is free. Muskie guide Howard Wagner will hold his annual cookout in conjunction with Three Rivers Muskie Inc.'s April meeting at the Fish Education Center from noon until 3 p.m. in Fombell, Butler County. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will host an open house at the Linesville hatchery on the shores of Pymatuning Reservoir in Crawford County from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors will see how walleye and muskie eggs are fertilized, how trap nets work, how biologists determine the age of fish, plus electro-shocking and angling techniques, and activity in the 10,000-gallon aquarium. Ben Tawney of Stoystown in Somerset County, the current Bassmaster CastingKids state champ in the 11-14 age group, was one of 18 finalists for the 2006 CastingKids state championship coordinated last weekend by the Dick's Sporting Goods Keystone Bass Buddy Circuit at nine Dick's Sporting Goods stores.
All of the following finalists advance to the state championship later this year.
