A little bit of Greensburg smolders at the bottom of a list of lissome "tofutti cuties" and "sultry soy boys."
Westmoreland native Lara Sanders, 23, is a candidate for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' annual "Sexiest Vegetarian Alive" contest.
Visitors to the PETA Web site can vote for Sanders or any of nine other beauties whose photos and biographical sketches are provided. The female and male contestant with the most votes will each win "a terrific prize package full of cruelty-free gifts." Winners will be announced March 15.
The animal rights group began using celebrity power years ago to promote vegetarian diets and condemn the fur business. The current "sexiest vegetarians" are bodybuilder Andre 3000 and movie starlet Alicia Silverstone.
"We've expanded the contest to include the vegetarian boy and girl next door, nominated by friends and family members," said campaign director Bruce Friedrich.
Sanders gave up meat-eating during her freshman year at American University in Washington, D.C., and is often seen demonstrating with D.C.-based animal rights group Compassion Over Killing.
