EBENSBURG, Pa. -- A former Steelers Pro Bowl player has sued an ambulance company and one of its drivers who hit him while he was bike riding last summer.
Carlton Haselrig, who left the Steelers in 1994 amid drug and alcohol problems, filed the lawsuit last week in Cambria County against 7th Ward Civic Association and Matthew Stiffler, the ambulance driver who hit him.
According to the lawsuit, Haselrig was riding his bicycle down an alley between Pine and Wood streets in Johnstown on June 21 when he stopped at a stop sign. After looking both ways, he claims, he pulled out and was struck by an ambulance.
He suffered a broken left foot, sprained left wrist, and other injuries to his "head, neck, shoulders, back, chest, arms, hips and legs." The lawsuit also alleges the injuries he received aggravated pre-existing conditions.
The lawsuit claims Stiffler drove carelessly and recklessly, and that the ambulance company is liable for his actions. Neither defendant could be reached for comment.
Haselrig was most recently charged with a robbery that allegedly occurred in September. He's being held in the Cambria County Prison.
