Poker, roulette, anyone?
Friday, February 04, 2005

Pennsylvania's casino law is less than seven months old and the state's first slot machine is a year or more away from accepting play. But two Democratic lawmakers already want to expand the industry by adding table games and roulette wheels to the mix.

State Reps. Mike Veon, D-Beaver Falls, and Minority Leader H. William DeWeese, D-Waynesburg, said yesterday they intend to introduce a bill that would allow poker, blackjack and table games at Pennsylvania's casinos.

Veon said the bill would have virtually no shot at passage during the 2005-06 legislative session, and that he was introducing it to jump-start conversation on the amount of tax revenue that could be realized by the state if it allowed table games.

The two said table games would be "a smart investment in Pennsylvania's future."
