Danny Morrissey scored 16 points and Mike Walker added 15, including a 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining, as host Penn State held on for a 65-62 victory against Northwestern yesterday.
Geary Claxton and Travis Parker each contributed 13 points to help the Nittany Lions (7-11, 1-4) record their first Big Ten win since a 63-61 overtime victory against the Wildcats (8-9, 1-4) last Jan 28.
Northwestern went on a late 14-3 run, with Davor Duvancic contributing six points, to cut the lead to 63-62 with three seconds to play.
Parker, however, hit two free throws to preserve the victory.
In a game dominated by back-and-forth 3-point shooting, the Lions managed to get more long-range shots to fall in the second half, shooting 14 of 26 (53 percent) on the game, led by Walker's 5 of 9 from behind the arc.
With the Wildcats leading, 32-31, early in the second half, the Nittany Lions reeled off five consecutive 3-pointers to grab a 46-38 advantage.
Northwestern was led by Vedran Vukusic's 17 points.
The Wildcats also got 14 points from Vince Scott, 12 from Mohamed Hachad and 11 from Duvancic.

Michigan State 69, Minnesota 55: Alan Anderson scored 13 points on 11-for-12 shooting from the free-throw line as No. 19 Michigan State (12-3, 4-1) made 26 of 28 foul shots to hold off host Minnesota (13-5, 3-2). Jeff Hagen, the Gophers' second-leading scorer and emotional leader, made a surprise appearance despite a sprained left knee and finished with 16 points. Aaron Robinson added 12 points, and Vince Grier had 10 for Minnesota. Hagen, who wore a black brace on his knee and ran with a noticeable limp, gave the Gophers some energy when he entered the game midway through the first half. Giving freshman Spencer Tollackson a break, he helped to prevent the Spartans from building a lead of more than seven points. Hagen, a senior who began his career as a walk-on, had six points in the final three minutes before intermission.
Iowa 71, Purdue 57: Greg Brunner and Doug Thomas each scored 14 points to help No. 23 Iowa (14-4, 2-3) bounce back from a loss to top-ranked Illinois with a victory against visiting Purdue (4-12, 0-6). After a sluggish start, the Hawkeyes built an 18-point halftime lead and were never threatened in the second half. It is the Boilermaker's worst conference start since the 1962-63. Carl Landry led the Boilermakers with 16 points and eight rebounds, and David Teague chipped in 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Wisconsin 72, Michigan 61: Mike Wilkinson had 28 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead No. 24 Wisconsin (13-3, 4-1) past host Michigan (12-7, 3-2). The Badgers led by just five at halftime, but opened the second half with an 11-2 run and pulled away for their eighth win in the past nine games. Their next game is against No. 1 Illinois Tuesday at home, where they have won 38 consecutive games -- the longest home winning streak in Division I.
