SouthSide Works a draw

Now that SouthSide Works is finally becoming a shopping and dining center, it continues to open new stores. Developer Soffer Organization expects openings by Steve Madden, BCBG, Cole Haan, American Eagle Outfitters and Torque Denim this spring, in addition to Caribou Coffee and Crazy Mocha Coffee. The fall should bring Benetton, Sisley, McCormick & Schmick's, Sur La Table and Recreational Equipment Inc., or REI.

Earnings

America West Holdings, the parent company of America West Airlines, posted a fourth-quarter net loss of $49.7 million. The loss amounted to $1.38 per share, vs. net income of $6.8 million, or 13 cents per share, a year ago. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial expected the company would lose $1.50 per share.

Honors for 'cool' tenants

The Cool Space Locator, the Lawrenceville-based commercial real estate nonprofit, said it was accepting nominations for the "Cool Space Awards," which will honor local businesses and organizations that utilize old or historic buildings for modern office space while retaining the buildings' historic features. The nominations, which must be received by Feb. 17, can be submitted to www.coolspacelocator.com.

Mellon Financial Corp. announced the appointment of three executive vice presidents: Rose M. Gabbianelli, James M. Gockley and Richard A. Rua. Separately, David Kutch was named chairman of Mellon's Mid-Atlantic Region and regional president of Private Wealth Management ... North Olmsted, Ohio-based plumbing manufacturer Moen has tapped Marc USA to handle its North American advertising. The company plans to launch a new campaign in March ... Nova Chemicals Corp. said it would receive a cash settlement of about $110 million in the resolution of a tax dispute with the Internal Revenue Service. The money will be paid by an affiliate of a company in which Nova Chemicals had an interest ... UAL Corp., the parent of United Airlines, received court approval for a 90-day extension of the exclusivity period covering its bankruptcy reorganization plan.
