The Pirates today agreed to terms on a new contract with shortstop Jack Wilson, one that will pay him $8 million over the next two seasons.
Wilson, the first member of the team to have 200 hits in a season since Dave Parker in 1977, had hoped to secure a three-year deal that would have taken him through all of his remaining arbitration-eligible seasons. But the team would not agree to that.
Wilson filed for arbitration last year and won a $1.85 million contract. He was eligible for arbitration again.
The team was expected to announce the deal at a news conference at PNC Park tomorrow.
More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
