The case of the missing SpongeBob SquarePants has a happy ending.
An inflatable figure of the popular cartoon character was stolen over Thanksgiving weekend from the Burger King in Chippewa, Beaver County.
The local Froggy country stations -- WOGF-FM (104.30, WOGI-FM (98.3), WOGH-FM (103.5) and WOGG-FM (94.9) -- offered a $1,000 reward for SpongeBob's safe return, with no questions asked. Yesterday at a news conference, Froggy morning hosts Jimmy Roach and Wendy Green presented the reward check to Rachel Miller, a high school student from East Palestine, Ohio, and her boyfriend Chris Williams of Youngstown. Miller overheard fellow students talking about the prank, and the pair was able to find the deflated SpongeBob hidden under leaves in the woods outside East Palestine, according to Frank Bell, vice president of programming for Keymarket Communications.
The Froggy stations used their expertise in inflatable restoration, patching SpongeBob with materials they use to keep the giant Froggy "Frog-zilla" promotional mascot in working order.
To celebrate, the Froggy stations and the Chippewa Burger King, 720 Shenango Road, will give away coupons for 1,000 free Whoppers on a first-come, first-served, one per customer basis -- at that location only. The giveaway starts this morning at 10:30 a.m.
