Onside kicks: 12/5/04
Sunday, December 05, 2004

At 8-3, the Jets are off to their best start since 1986 and tied the second-best start in their history.

Those Jets, who play a 4:15 p.m. game in Heinz Field next Sunday, have allowed 15.3 points a game, behind only the Eagles and Ravens (14.9).

This is the third time the Eagles have been 10-1. They won the NFL championship in 1949. They played in Super Bowl XV after the 1980 season and lost to Oakland.

There's only one kicker with as many misses as Jeff Reed (15 of 20) on field goal tries in the AFC and he also played for the Steelers. Kris Brown is 16 of 21 for Houston after missing at least one field goal in his past four games. If he misses another today when the Texans play at the New York Jets, he will tie his personal high of five consecutive games with at least one miss, set in 2001 with the Steelers. That, of course, was a really bad news Brown year when he led the league with 14 missed field-goal tries.
