Where to get help, where to give it
Wednesday, November 17, 2004

The flood-damaged Millvale office of North Hills Community Outreach is set to reopen Monday.

Workers once again will be available at the renovated office at 223 North Ave. to take calls, welcome walk-ins and assist those who need help, as well as those who want information on how to get help, said Fay Morgan, executive director of the outreach agency.

Members of the Rotary Club of McCandless have worked every weekend to renovate the office, which lost everything on its first floor and in its basement during the Sept. 17 flood.

"It's kind of sad because when we're down there working, people stop by for help, but there hasn't been much we could do from that site," Morgan said.

North Hills Community Outreach and Hosannah Industries Inc. are both seeking new volunteers and employees to help with the ongoing effort to aid flood victims. .

The outreach agency also is looking for a warehouse near the hardest-hit areas to store donated items. "Right now, we're having a backlog of people who want to donate things, but we can't take them because people are not yet back in their homes. People need to hang onto those items and be patient."

The agency also is working with the Northern Allegheny Chamber of Commerce to form a business-to-business aid program to collect donated office equipment and furniture from companies that want to help.
