Food stamps for flood victims
Friday, October 01, 2004

With many municipalities in Western Pennsylvania declared federal disaster areas, additional federal money has been allocated for food stamps.

Food assistance through the Modified Food Stamp Program is available to a broader sector of the population, according to Allegheny County Emergency Services Chief Robert A. Full.

Income and loss criteria are strict. But given the level of devastation, it is expected that many will be able to take advantage of the new guidelines.

Flood victims may apply through Wednesday for food stamps at Disaster Recovery Centers or their county assistance office.

For more information, call the assistance offices in the following counties: Allegheny, 412-565-2146; Armstrong, 724-543-1651; Beaver, 724-773-7300; Butler, 724-284-8844; Greene, 724-627-8171; Indiana, 724-357-2900; Washington County, 724-223-4300; and Westmoreland, 724-832-5200 or 1-800-905-5413.
