An after-school center for technology learning officially opened yesterday in East Liberty.
Named the 3 Rivers Computer Clubhouse, the center is the first Intel Computer Clubhouse in the state and is a project of 3 Rivers Connect, in collaboration with the Parental Stress Center and the Carnegie Science Center. Startup money was provided by the Howard Heinz Endowment.
The clubhouse, located in the Rubicon Building, 210 S. Highland Ave., will provide youths 12 to 18 with professional software, up-to-date technology and help from adult mentors. The youths will be able to create digital artwork and games, music CDs, films, short movies and Web sites.
The Parental Stress Center's Youth in Service Initiative will provide additional opportunities, including arts, sports, education, leadership development and volunteer service.
