High School Highlights: No. 1 Moon clips Thomas Jefferson, 1-0
Wednesday, September 08, 2004

In a rematch of last season's WPIAL Class AA championship game, Moon edged host Thomas Jefferson, 1-0, in Class AA Section 3 boys' soccer.

Senior midfielder Jeremy Brinkley scored nine minutes into the second half from a throw-in by freshman Eric Hamilton.

Moon (2-0, 1-0), the reigning WPIAL champion, is ranked No. 1 by the Post-Gazette. Thomas Jefferson (1-2, 0-1) is ranked No. 2 among Class AA teams. The Tigers defeated the Jaguars three times last season.

"Our team is completely different than last year," Moon head coach Arne Thomas said. "I'm proud of the way our younger guys stepped up. This was a nice win on the road, but we've got a long way to go. No one is passing out any awards on Sept. 7."
