Downtown streets closed Sunday

Streets around Fifth Avenue Place will be closed, buses will be detoured and the Gateway Center light-rail station will be closed from 4 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Sunday while signs are placed atop the office building.

Port Authority riders are advised to expect delays.

The closure will affect parts of Liberty Avenue, Penn Avenue, Stanwix Street and Fifth Avenue around Fifth Avenue Place.

Pitt students' return to cause congestion

The University of Pittsburgh is advising motorists in Oakland to expect heavier than usual traffic congestion on Aug. 25-28 as students move into campus dormitories for the start of the fall semester.

Bigelow Boulevard will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., between Fifth and Forbes avenues. Lothrop Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25-27, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 28.

Schenley Quad will be closed to all vehicles from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25-27.

On Aug. 26, heavier traffic is expected as a result of Freshman Convocation, set for 3 p.m. in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt police officers will be stationed at key intersections to assist traffic flow.
