Weekly report
Erie: Walleye have picked up with limits being taken west of Walnut Creek in 32 to 45 feet. Steelhead are coming in the second trench. Excellent perch angling continues all over the lake. Good panfishing is reported in and around Presque Isle Bay. Leading the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie benefit contest out of Poor Richard's Bait and Tackle are Howard Lindsey of North East with an 11-pound, 1-ounce 33-inch walleye, and Misty Maitland of Butler with a 1-pound, 6-ounce 14-inch perch. Shawn Stahl of Lyndora caught a 5-pound, 14-ounce smallmouth bass.
Lake Arthur: John Reep and Andrew Radwanski of Butler won the Keystone Bass Buddies Tournament Sunday with a 14.79-pound, five-fish total. John Grystar of Butler boated the 6.31-pound largemouth lunker. Bob Sarnese of Prospect caught a 15 1/2-inch crappie on a minnow last weekend. Channel catfish abound. Some evening striper action continues.
Allegheny River: Fishing is slow overall. Denny Tubbs of Greensburg landed seven nice bass Monday around Harmarville when he switched to a drop shot rig and dark color Senkos after crank baits, plastics and jigs failed. He promptly boated a 13-inch spotted bass, then six more smallmouth and spotteds, from 12 1/2 to 14 inches, targeting heavy prey fish areas. A 40-plus inch muskie was nearly landed at the Highland Park Dam last week. The Venture Outdoors Downtown TriAnglers landed just four smallmouth bass and a 19-inch channel cat at the Point yesterday.
North Park Lake/Pine Creek:Mike Purcell and Deanna Zeits report good channel catfishing, including a 31-inch 121*2 pounder, in the lake last weekend. Carl Scholtz of Shaler released three brown trout and two rainbows plus smallmouth bass and suckers on the creek, Saturday.
Ohio River: Angling has been off, with scattered reports of smallmouth at Montour Run and largemouth under I-79 at the mouth of Moon Run. The occasional hybrid striper and walleye are reported at Dashields. Teddy Taucher of McKees Rocks reports landing 5-pound 'wipers' at the back channel.
Lake Wilhelm: Walleye, bass and perch are the main catches, with some crappie and bluegill reported. Matt DeFilippo of Harrison City caught an 18-inch, 3 1/2-pound largemouth on a crawler Friday. Vera Yost of Robinson Township boated two largemouth, including a 22-inch 5 1/4-pounder, on hot and tots. On Thursday, Ron Kautchick of Stoneboro boated five walleye, 19 to 23 inches, on hot n tots.
Raystown Lake: Stripers are averaging 15 pounds, though a 31-pounder was caught on an alewife by Tony McConaughey and his grandson Justin McConaughey, 13, of Columbia, Pa., Friday. Justin caught an 18-pounder Monday. Action is mostly from marker five to the dam.
Youghiogheny River: John Swierczek landed a 23-inch brown trout on a maggot at the tailrace of the dam last Thursday.
Oil Creek: Conditions are changing daily but trout fishing last weekend was good. Hatches include Yellow Sally Stoneflies, Blue-wing Olives and some Light Cahills. Bass action has been slower than usual. Call Oil Creek Outfitters at 814-827-3095.
Spring Creek/Fishing Creek/Little Juniata: Conditions have been fluctuating with rainfall, but, when streams are fishable, such as they were yesterday, late day and evening angling have been productive.
