In researching the articles, Post-Gazette Staff Writers Ed Blazina and Mike Bucsko compiled a wealth of historical data about the 130 municipalities that comprise Allegheny County today. Dividing the county into four geographic zones, the northern suburbs have the largest number of municipalities with 48, followed by the south (29), east (28) and west (24).
