Distance: Three miles.
Hiking Time: On the High Point Trail, Shelter Rock Trail, Shelter Rock Road trail and Tub Mill Trail, about 1 1/2 hours.
Degree of difficulty: Easy, except when a big bear is sitting in the middle of a trail.
What to bring: Hiking boots would be helpful in rocky areas and a walking stick is useful in turning aside thorny vines and tall grasses. Carry ample water.
Nearest bathroom: Modern pit toilets are open at the Mount Davis Picnic Area along state Route 2004.

Driving directions: From Pittsburgh, take the Pennsylvania Turnpike east to Exit 10 at Somerset, then state Route 281 south 18 miles to left on Fort Hill Road. After 3.5 miles, turn left onto High Point Lake Road for 2 miles to left onto state Route 2004. After approximately 2 miles, pass through Rock Road intersection (turn right to drive to Mount Davis summit) and continue 1/2-mile to well-signed Mount Davis Picnic Area parking lot on the right.
