Business Notes
World Health Alternatives Inc. closed on its acquisition of Pulse Healthcare Staffing Inc. Pulse is a medical staffing company in Citrus Heights, Calif., that specializes in staffing nurses. World Health has acquired all 100,000 shares of stock in Pulse in return for cash, shares of common stock in World Health and deferred payments.
Questeq formed a strategic partnership with Management Science Associates to broaden services in the K-12 educational market. Questeq has reorganized into four divisions: Questeq Technology Planning, Questeq Technology Management, Questeq Support System and Questeq Desktop Management. The partnership with MSA will provide the technology planning and support system with data tracking capabilities. Questeq also has chosen MSA as its exclusive K-12 hosting provider.
A two-year pilot training program has been arranged between Career Training Academy and Children's Community Pediatrics, a subsidiary of Children's Hospital.
Name Changes
T/C Unlimited, headquartered in Oakland, changed its name to Transportation Solutions, which provides employee, student and medical transportation and fleet maintenance services. Another change for Transportation Solutions lies in the construction of its new building. The new structure consists of 11,000 square feet of space.
Contracts
ServiceWare Technologies Inc. won a contract to provide its customer service and support application, ServiceWare Enterprise, to EADS TELECOM's Customer Support Center.
Burns & Scalo Roofing Co. received a roofing contract award for Kaufmann's, Ross Park.
University of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, retained Renaissance 3 Architects to evaluate several alternatives for new student housing on the campus and to renovate Chambers Hall Student Center.
PWCampbell was awarded a design/build contract by First National Bank of Altavista for the construction of a new branch facility located in Forest, Va.
PDG Environmental was awarded a $2.8 million contract to perform asbestos abatement and reinsulation at a U.S. government facility in northern Virginia.
JLG Industries Inc. was awarded a two-year contract with the Marine Corps for the refurbishing of the Tier 1 telehandler fleet.
Making a Difference/Doing Good
Van loads of bandages, peroxide, aspirin, crutches and other goods were delivered to Victory Junction Gang Camp by volunteers from GlaxoSmithKline. Victory Junction, Randleman, N.C., is a camp for children ages 7 to 15 with chronic or life-threatening illnesses that was founded by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and his wife, Pattie, in honor of their son, Adam, who was killed in a racing accident in 2000.
Awards/Honors
The Executive Council of the American Society for Colon and Rectal Surgeons awarded Thomas Read, M.D., the 2004 Traveling Fellow Award. Read, chief of the division of colon and rectal surgery at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, will travel to the United Kingdom; and he was named an associate editor of the ASCRS journal Diseases of the Colon & Rectum. The Traveling Fellow Award began in 1993 and is presented each year to one young board-certified colorectal surgeon in the United States as part of an exchange program with the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania received an "Outstanding" Community Reinvestment Act rating from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. for 2003.
Diane M. Pearson, certified financial planner and shareholder, Legend Financial Advisors Inc., was voted Woman Business Owner of the Year for 2004 by the Pittsburgh chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
United Way of Pennsylvania honored Jim Rohr, chairman and chief executive officer, PNC Financial Services Group, with the Business Leader of the Year Award for his commitment to United Way and early childhood education. PNC said it would dedicate $100 million over 10 years to improve "school readiness" for children in five states over a full decade.
