Killer of 2-year-old given time served
Thursday, June 10, 2004

An East Hills man yesterday was sentenced to time served for his guilty plea to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter in 2002.

Donald Williams, 22, served 17 months in the Allegheny County Jail. He and his girlfriend, Tia Banks, also 22, were arrested Dec. 23, 2002, a day after the death of Banks' daughter, Atia.

A jury on Monday convicted Banks of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the death of Atia.

The child died of head trauma, according to a coroner's report.

Banks had been free on bail until her conviction. Following her arrest, she had served about eight months in jail.

She will be sentenced in August by Common Pleas Judge Kathleen A. Durkin, who issued the sentence yesterday on Williams.
