Steve Levin
Staff writer Steve Levin, 49, joined the Post-Gazette in 1997 after working for Newsweek and People magazines, and newspapers in North Carolina and Texas.
He is a 1976 graduate of the University of North Carolina -- Chapel Hill.
He reports on religion, welfare reform and foundations. Levin is a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., and the author of three nonfiction books.

John Beale
Staff photographer John Beale, 46, joined the paper in 1984.
He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism.
In 2001, Beale was the first recipient of the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Community Service Photojournalism Award for his photographs documenting the diversity of religious worship in Western Pennsylvania.
