Lakefield, union chiefs to meet
New US Airways Chief Executive Officer Bruce Lakefield is expected to explain the airline's recovery plan to union leaders next Wednesday at the airline's Arlington, Va., headquarters. The company, which hopes to cut its costs drastically while expanding on the East Coast, also is scheduling other meetings next week to discuss specific cost-cutting proposals with each labor group. Thus far, only the pilots have agreed to new contract talks.
Robinson building in focus
Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Yablonsky is expected to give an update today on the renovations of the former GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare headquarters in Robinson. Kennedy-based National Real Estate Information Services acquired the building for $3.85 million in July. At the time, the company said it planned to upgrade the building and that it would hire 500 workers over the next 12 to 18 months.
Mortgage firm cuts staff
Heartland Home Finance, a mortgage company based in Downers Grove, Ill., cut about eight employees from its loan origination office in Green Tree yesterday as part of a nationwide pruning of nonprofitable operations, according to Executive Vice President Don Flynn. The company plans to lay off about 15 percent of its origination staff in the next few weeks because of declining loan volume, he said. About a dozen employees remain in Green Tree, Flynn said.

Wizzard Software said it completed the acquisition of MedivoxRx Technologies in an all stock and debt deal valued at $550,000 ... NSD Bancorp Inc. declared a common stock dividend of 5 percent, payable May 17 to shareholders of record May 3. A cash payment will be made in lieu of fractional shares.
