Pitt assistant basketball coach Barry Rohrssen is expected to remain with the Panthers after being courted by St. John's the past two days. Rohrssen, 43, will receive a significant pay increase and will have the new title of associate head coach.
St. John's also offered the associate head coach title and between $200,000 and $250,000. Pitt didn't match the $200,000 figure but got close enough to keep Rohrssen, the program's conduit to New York City, in the fold.
An official announcement could come as early as today.
Rohrssen recruited Carl Krauser, the team's top scorer last season, and Chris Taft, the top rebounder, as well as incoming freshmen Keith Benjamin and Ronald Ramon.
Rohrssen has been with Pitt since 1999, first as director of basketball operations and then as an assistant coach the past three seasons.
