Nasty sign nets arrest on Parkway West
Wednesday, February 11, 2004

As if a man in a skirt weren't enough to distract motorists passing through the Fort Pitt Tunnels yesterday morning, the leggy hombre standing alongside the Parkway West was bare-chested and carrying a nasty sign.

One woman driver was so offended she called Pennsylvania State Police, who arrested the man and his cohort sometime after the 9 a.m. incident.

Bobby Mason, 23, of Philadelphia, and Clarence Day, 22, of Detroit, were issued summary citations for disorderly conduct and traffic violations.

"The men and the sign were visible to the public, including any small children that may have been in the area," state police said in a news release. "The two were also causing a distraction to the motoring public."

Pedestrians are not permitted on limited access highways, and vehicles cannot park alongside them, state police said.

The pair told police they worked for radio station WKST-FM and were involved in a station prank to do with the sign, which read, "Honk if you can see my [testicles]," Cpl. Raymond Hirschinger said.

It was not clear which of the culprits was carrying the sign.

No one from the radio station could be reached for comment.
