In the wake of the discovery of mad cow disease in the United States, there has been renewed interest in how domestic animals that are used for human consumption are treated. The cow was what's known as a "downer," that is, so sick that it could not move to slaughter under its own volition. If you are interested in buying meat products from farms that treat their animals under unstressful conditions and feed them healthier food, check out this site: www.eatwellguide.org. It's a national online directory of sustainably-raised meat. |
