In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to celebrate Black History Month, Citizens Bank will sponsor the third annual "Expressions of Freedom" writing contest for Pittsburgh Public Schools students.
Twenty-four students will be awarded $100 savings bonds from Citizens Bank. This year, participants will write a script for a 30-second public service announcement and winners will have the opportunity to produce their announcements and have them broadcast on WAMO-FM or WPXI-TV.
Using approximately 100 words, contestants' PSAs should inspire young people to put King's "I Have A Dream" speech into action and spread his values of nonviolence and understanding throughout the community.
A panel of Citizens Bank employees and local celebrities will select the contest winners, eight each from the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Winners will be announced the week of March 15.
Entries must be postmarked no later than Feb. 19 and sent to Citizens Bank, c/o William J. Green & Associates, Three Gateway Center, Suite 2300, Pittsburgh 15222. Students' full names, ages, addresses and phone numbers must appear on a separate sheet of paper attached to each entry.
