District Basketball: Xavier pounds Lady Panthers, 72-48

Pitt fell to visiting Xavier, 72-48, yesterday at the Peterson Events Center. The Panthers dropped to 3-6 while the Musketeers improved to 7-3.

Latoya Kincaid had a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Panthers, while Jennifer Brown added 14 points and 7 boards.

The Panthers hit only 38 percent (19 of 50) of their field goals and were 18 percent (2 of 11) from 3-point range.

Pitt finished with 28 rebounds and held Xavier to 22.

Pitt will return to action on New Year's Eve when it plays host to Fordham. Tipoff is scheduled for noon at the Peterson Events Center. This will be the first matchup between the two schools.

Women's games

Army 70, Robert Morris 58: Jenna Burkett scored a game-high 33 points as visiting Robert Morris' (1-8) lost to Army (7-2). Burkett set a new Christl Arena record by making nine 3-pointers, and she also shot 44 percent from the floor.

Saint Vincent 80, Culver-Stockton 59: Kristen Myers scored 31 points and had 10 rebounds in Saint Vincent's (1-7) win against Culver-Stockton (9-3) in the SXU Christmas Tipoff Tournament in Chicago, Ill. Kristen Lancas had 17 and Jessica Kallio added 10 points for the Bearcats.

Niagara 73, Youngstown State 66: Four players for both teams scored in double figures as host Niagara (5-3) beat Youngstown State (1-9). Colleen Toetz and Eva Cunningham led Niagara with 21 points each. Jen Perugini scored 18 points for Youngstown State.

Clarion 75, Albany 41: Heather Cigich, a Johnstown-Conamaugh Township High School graduate, scored 19 points in Clarions (7-3) victory against Albany College of Pharmacy, N.Y., in the Ocean City Tournament in Md. Cigich also recorded her 1,000 point and is now at 1.008. Shay Godwin added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Men's games

Maryville 93, Westminster 55: Pat O'Connor, a Keystone Oaks High School graduate, had a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in Westminsters (2-8) loss to Maryville, Tenn. (7-3), in the consolation game of the "O" Club Classic at Otterbein College.

Buffalo State 65, Thiel 50: Stephen Laird led three Thiel (4-6) players in double figures with 13 points in a loss against Buffalo State (4-3) in the consolation game of the Marietta Tournament in Ohio. Mike Banach and Chris Kwolek added 10 points apiece for the Tomcats.
