A Squirrel Hill woman sued the Pittsburgh Symphony in federal court this week, claiming that she was recruited to come here as director of classical marketing, then forced to resign.
Hannelore N. Rogers claims in a complaint filed Tuesday that she began working for the symphony in March 2001 until she was threatened with termination. After 16 months on the job, she resigned on Aug. 2, 2002.
In 2001, Rogers moved from Milwaukee, Wis., where she worked for the Milwaukee Symphony as its associate director of marketing. She was recruited to come to Pittsburgh and hired here at a salary of $75,000, according to the complaint.
Rogers, now 60, was 58 when she took the job. In her complaint, Rogers said she was a victim of age discrimination because she was fired for no justifiable reason and her job given to a woman in her mid-30s who was paid far less.
Rogers is seeking back pay and benefits, compensatory damages and attorneys' fees.
Jody Doherty, vice president of public affairs for the symphony, said yesterday that symphony officials would not comment about the litigation.
