Readers share more dreams
Thursday, December 11, 2003

We asked readers to send us samples of their dreams, and they have started pouring in. The first submissions were published yesterday, here are some more:

Nicholas Parrendo, 75, Brighton Heights

I had this dream on 9-10-03 and it woke me up at 4:40 a.m.

A friend's dog chased a scummy pig in our street, grabbing its tail.

The pig turned and caught hold of the dog's tongue, pulling on the dog and swallowed it -- I could see the dog inside the saliva inferno, sloshing around , unable to breath. It lay down dying. I couldn't watch.

Linda Smith, 56, Mars

I recently dreamed that I was frightened and alone in a big old house and huddling under a desk because the weatherman was warning of an impending tornado in the area.

INTRIGUED?

We'd like to hear about your dreams. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette welcomes interested dreamers to e-mail samples that will be published in the newspaper or on the PG Web site. If you haven't been keeping track of your dreams, get started now. Send any dreams you feel comfortable in sharing by Dec. 19 to dreams@post-gazette.com. Type in "dreams" in the subject line. Please include your name, age and home town or neighborhood, and daytime telephone number. Obviously, we can't publish them all, but we'll do our best to pull together as wide a selection as possible.

The front door opened and in walked my son in his Coast Guard uniform. I was so glad to see him and he huddled with me under the desk while the tornado shook the house and then passed by.

My interpretation? My son is being deployed from his home base soon after Christmas and will be on a Coast Guard cutter somewhere out in the Pacific for nearly three months. I think the dream symbolized my anxiety for his safety, and yet a realization that he is ultimately out there protecting all of us.

Mary Feick, 60, Mt. Lebanon

I fondly remember my childhood recurring "bad" dream. I had this dream all through elementary and high school.

Bad guys would be chasing me, but just as they almost caught up to me, I would be able to jump into the sky and fly away. I had no wings to flap, but rather I would be able to swim through the sky using the breast stroke. I would just barely clear the trees and could skim through high branches, always leaving my threatening pursuers below. My swimming through the air never failed me. I always had faith that I could launch myself to safety at the last minute. There was such freedom and accomplishment in that act that I wish I still had that dream.

Dee Angel, 46, Bellevue

I had a dream two nights ago that I started an organization that would help women with the costs for divorce. I was selling packages of coffee and the program was called "Grounds for divorce." How ironic.
