How to keep a dream journal

Peter Baynes, 16, of Oakland, is a senior at Perry Traditional Academy in the city.

He has sickle cell anemia, an inherited condition characterized by sickle-shaped red blood cells that don't carry as much oxygen as normal cells. Patients can experience pain and other complications. Peter is treated frequently at Children's Hospital and was hospitalized for most of the time that he recorded his dreams.

He likes biology and science and aspires to be a doctor. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games and watching TV. He pays attention to his dreams and sometimes dreams about road trips.

I had a dream that I won a new car on the radio and my friends and I went on a road trip.
I had a dream where my girlfriend and I were getting chased by a local gang because we had something they wanted. I ended up getting hurt, but not killed, in a car accident we had from the gang trying to sideswipe us on the highway. My girlfriend survived as well with only minor cuts and bruises.
I had a dream that I got locked inside a grocery store and pit bulls were chasing me. I threw slabs of meat to occupy them. Just when they were about to catch me, I woke up.

(Note: Peter's family has a black and white pit bull terrier named Capone -- but he's friendly.)

I got a chance to sit and play Madden (a sports video game) with my favorite rapper, Jay-Z. We sat and joked around and talked. Then I got a chance to see his tour bus.
