Profile of the week

Barbara C. Chaffee

Job: President, Public Intelligence and Ripple Effects Interactive

Age: 52

Ambitions: Together with my business partner, Louis Malafarina, grow Public Intelligence into one of the top strategic communications companies in the Northeast while delivering both creative and strategic excellence and value to our clients. Also, to learn something new every day.

First job: Dishwasher in a Holiday Inn Hotel.

Hardest job/why?: White House Office of Homeland Security -- breaking new ground, massive communication and coordination efforts, protecting the United States from enemies that have tremendous will and commitment with many options to take lives and destroy the U.S. economy.

Biggest work challenge ever: Reconciling the often divergent agendas of the numerous stakeholders in both my previous positions at Homeland Security and as Pennsylvania's deputy secretary for tourism and economic development.

Favorite stock/mutual fund: Not back in the market yet. I stayed out of the market while working for the state and the White House so there could never be any ethics issue.

Away from work I: Read, go to the movies, theater and arts venues, travel and explore, enjoy the company of friends, and now work out with a tenacious fitness trainer.

Dream vacation: A trip around the world with plenty of time to explore.

Favorite book: "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand.

If I won the Lottery, I'd: Help my mother, five brothers, six children and some dear friends achieve some of their dreams, and I would make time to travel with friends to all the places I want to experience.
