I didn't know what to expect as I headed downtown in the pre-dawn darkness to pay my last respects to Michael Jackson. The rumored crowds of fans weren't there. The streets were eerily quiet except for the police stationed at barricades that made access to the memorial service possible for only the chosen with tickets and the coveted gold wrist bands. The atmosphere outside the Staples Center was subdued. Most of the action surrounded the gridlock of satellite trucks where hundreds of reporters from around the world searched for a new angle on the story of the passing of the King of Pop.
