SUNRISE, Fla. -- Center Evgeni Malkin is not playing in the Penguins' game against Florida at the BB&T Center tonight.
Although Malkin has a sunburn, he also is believed to be bothered by a minor shoulder problem.
The Penguins' explanation for his absence is an "upper-body injury," and team officials vehemently denied that sunburn played any part in the decision to have him sit out the game.
One team official said Malkin would have been in the lineup if it had been a playoff game, and that he should be available when the Penguins play Montreal Wednesday at Consol Energy Center.
Malkin participated in the game-day skate at BB&T Center today with no apparent problem, but he did not join his teammates for the pregame warmups.
