FSN Pittsburgh's broadcast of Game 5 of the Flyers-Penguins series last night at Mellon Arena was interrupted twice.
According to FSN, a lightning strike at the network's technical operations facility in Atlanta disabled the facility's uplink capability and service was down for approximately 30 minutes until a backup facility could resume transmission of the network's feed.
The feed on a big screen outside at Mellon Arena also was interrupted.
In the second extended blackout, the Flyers' Arron Asham scored the first goal of the game, eventually won by Philadelphia, 3-0. The Flyers' victory forced Game 6 in Philadelphia at 3 p.m. Saturday. That game will be televised nationally on NBC (locally on WPXI).
"We understand and apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this may have caused the Penguins organization, the fans and all of our viewers," FSN said in a statement. "We at FSN Pittsburgh do not take these matters lightly and will continue to make it a priority to provide a quality viewing experience for our teams and their fans."
